Ten Tors

For the past nine years Nancealverne School have entered a team ranging from four to eight students for the Ten Tors Jubilee Challenge on Dartmoor which takes place each year in early May. The event is organised and run by the Army and Army Cadets as well as Search & Rescue Helicopter Squadron and 4x4 Rescue.

Training starts in early January and includes coastal routes, Porthgwarra, Botallack and Sennen to Land’s End, before heading off to Bodmin and Dartmoor to complete the training.

We travel up to Okehampton on the Friday before the event and camp at the Okehampton Army Camp with 350 other eventers and the 3500 main eventers.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build on their self-esteem, learn to work as part of a team, problem-solve, experience a mainstream hiking event, learn to manage challenges and cope in a completely different environment and learn new skills, such as camping, navigating, first aid and cooking.

This event cannot be possible without the very generous sponsorship from local organisations, West Cornwall Youth Trust, Bolingey Barbarians, Pure Cornwall and Cornwall Council.
