Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

As we move through a busy and joyful term, we’re thrilled to share some of the exciting enrichment activities that have been lighting up our school days. Our students have continued to thrive through a wide range of opportunities designed to support their development, wellbeing, and love of learning. From swimming sessions that build confidence and coordination, to our ever-popular football and running clubs, there’s been plenty of opportunities for everyone to get active, have fun, and develop valuable skills in teamwork and perseverance.

A real highlight this term has been the wonderful music provision delivered by our talented resident musician, Lisa. Both Maple and Olives classes have been fully immersed in weekly sessions filled with rhythm, song, and creativity. Lisa’s passion and expertise have brought music to life in such a joyful and accessible way, giving students the chance to explore instruments, express themselves, and connect through sound.

We were also delighted to welcome a special visit from Cornwall Cricket, who delivered some fantastic activities with Willow Class – a big thank you to them for such a fun and engaging session! Alongside this, our regular visitors have continued to enrich the school week, with sessions from Pirates Rugby, Zumba, and Music Therapy all bringing joy and variety to the students' learning experiences.

It’s been a vibrant and enriching term so far, and we look forward to even more adventures and achievements ahead!

Best wishes,

Pippa

Deputy Head Teacher

Cedar Class:

In cedar class students access the curriculum through a sensory based timetable. Students access activities through using their senses to build their understanding of the chosen topic. Sensory objects are used to help learners engage and build their understanding of the world around them, this gives them the skills to explore their environments with increasing independence. Within the photos our learners are exploring a range of resources that enable them to engage with their learning effectively.

      Elm Class:

In Elm Class, we've had an exciting time exploring new concepts and creative projects. In maths, we have been working on sorting objects into two groups, helping to develop classification skills. Our European art project has been equally inspiring, with the children creating vibrant collages influenced by the bold and colourful style of Henri Matisse. The students have thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with shapes and colours, bringing their artwork to life in unique and imaginative ways.

Maple Class:

Maple Class have been having a wonderful time recently! We've been celebrating each other, our birthdays, and all the amazing skills we’re developing. Our daily routines are full of energy and anticipation as we build our perseverance and strengthen our communication—focusing on signing and using AAC for the word ‘more’.

We've explored this key word across all areas of learning, including cookery, Boccia, music, fine motor activities, rebound and throughout our everyday routines. Fantastic work, Maple Class!

Father Christmas - Relaxed Sessions

  • 17 Dec: 5pm - 7pm
    19 Dec: 10am - 11am

This Christmas the Heligan Team are excited to announce the return of a very special guest, as we look forward to welcoming back Father Christmas and his team of Elves to The Lost Gardens.

Relaxed sessions for families with a child with disabilities or additional needs are available during the evening of Wednesday 17th December.

These evening relaxed sessions also include entry to the enchanting Heligan Night Garden.

Father Christmas tells us that he just can’t wait to meet you all again as you visit him beside the famous fireplace and share your stories, hopes and wishes with him.

The Lost Gardens provide the most magical and perfect setting for any Christmas experience, especially for the annual visit to meet Father Christmas. As you explore The Gardens on your way to your visit, don’t forget to write your letter to Father Christmas…. he really does enjoy reading your thoughtful letters!

You and your family will then be welcomed to the gardens, where you will start to prepare for your special visit. Here the Team will ensure you get into the Christmas spirit, with music and festive crafts, and don’t forget your complimentary toasted marshmallows to toast over the warming fire. As anticipation builds you will be escorted by The Head elf to meet Father Christmas in the magical traditional setting of the Head Gardeners Office.

Each child will be gifted a small traditional children’s present to remember their visit to Father Christmas by, along with Christmas wonder and traditions that reconnect you to the magic and true meaning of Christmas.

Father Christmas can’t wait to hear all about your year, your hopes for the future, and your wishes for Christmas. He has some magical stories of his own to share with you too!

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the unique cosy setting we can only accept bookings with maximum of six people.
