Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

As we come to the end of another fantastic term, it is wonderful to reflect on just how much we have shared and achieved together. This term has truly captured the magic of Nancealverne, culminating in a series of joyful Christmas events that brought our whole school community together. From the warmth and wonder of our Primary Nativity Play, to the beautiful music of the Secondary and Upper School Carol Concert, every performance showcased the confidence, creativity and talent of our children. Our Christmas lunch was filled with laughter and festive cheer, made even more unforgettable by two special visits from Santa — flying by helicopter no less, before walking around the school to delight everyone he met. Add to this our brilliant Celebration Assembly and a fun-filled disco, and it has been a term packed with memories that will last a lifetime.

A message from the Deputy Head:
As I prepare to go on secondment for the year ahead, I want to take a moment to say just how much Nancealverne means to me. This is, without question, the best school in the world — a place filled with incredible, dedicated staff and the most wonderful children. It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside such a caring, passionate community, and I am so proud to be part of the Nancealverne family.

At Christmas, we are reminded of what truly matters — family, friends and the connections that bring us together. Whether shared around a table, in laughter with friends, or in quiet moments of reflection, these connections give us strength, joy and hope. Thank you to our pupils, families and staff for the kindness, support and sense of belonging that make our school such a special place. We wish you all a peaceful, joyful Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the year ahead. 🎄✨

With very best wishes,

Pippa

Olives Class:

This term our class has been very busy exploring lots of exciting learning experiences. We’ve taken part in sensory play, music, hydrotherapy and movement sessions, building confidence, curiosity and enjoyment along the way. A real highlight was performing in the Christmas nativity as shining stars, using switches and bells alongside the local town band. We’re incredibly proud of how well everyone engaged, showing enthusiasm, resilience and plenty of smiles throughout.

Brans Library Reading Session:

On Thursday 11th December, we took part in a whole school reading session. We created a relaxed enjoyable afternoon where the children could share in the joy of reading and sharing.

At Bran’s Library, our mission is to harness the power of stories to create a lasting connection. We support this by gifting a carefully curated selection of picture books to families experiencing second trimester miscarriage, termination for medical reasons, still birth and  those on end-of-life pathways in neonatal units (NICUs).

Sharing these stories supports memory making, emotional regulation and wider family involvement at the most acute stage of baby loss. Our work also acknowledges the importance of familiar voices in providing comfort and connection. Bran’s Library aims to bring moments of 'normality' to families by offering them the opportunity to experience the simple joy of sharing stories with their babies, even in the most fragile of times.

Our focus at the start of this project is NICUs and Bereavement Teams in hospitals in the South West of England where Bran was born and, as a family we have been supported.

We aim to become a registered charity by 2026 in honour of our son Bran, who died at 6 days old on NICU after suffering a traumatic brain injury at birth. We shared stories with him from the moment he was born, and continue to read them out loud in memory of him, celebrating our ongoing connection with him as part of our little family.

Bran's Library books are chosen by bereaved parents, ensuring that they are psychologically safe stories, with beautiful illustrations. Whilst on the NICU there was nothing more calming than reading about nature, home, cosy fires and escaping on wild adventures with Bran, when the world felt so scary, uncertain and overwhelming.  We truly believe that sharing stories with your baby is something that every family should have the opportunity to experience and that families should be able to take those stories, memories and connections home with them.

Lantern Making:

Secondary classes had a whole-day lantern making workshop with a visiting artist called Alice. We will parade with them during the secondary Christmas concert. Lots of Maths was needed to make the diamond and square-based pyramid shapes. Acorns class helped to decorate them when they were finished.

 Christmas Carol Concerts:

This week, we enjoyed two wonderful carol concerts — one for Primary and one for Secondary. Both were fantastic events that showcased the hard work and dedication each student put in through weeks of practice. Thank you to everyone who came along to support and celebrate the performances.
