Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

Happy New Year! It has certainly been quite a first week back. I hope that everyone has now returned to some sense of normality following Storm Goretti, and that power and water supplies have been restored. I also hope that any damage to homes and property has been minimal. Please do let us know if you are still experiencing difficulties or need any support. We are here to help.

As we look ahead to the spring term, we are very much looking forward to the days gradually becoming lighter and longer. Classes will make the most of the great outdoors and have many trips and excursions planned for the spring term. In addition, we look forward to the many exciting enrichment opportunities planned. These include World Book Day, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Arts Week and a talent show. We will also be choosing and selecting our whole school skills builder ambassadors. We very much look forward to another exciting term!

Have a great weekend

Acorns Class:

In Acorns class our topic is "Our Wonderful World" and we have been exploring hot and cold countries, learning some of their names and the animals that live there. We are currently reading "The Animal Boogie" and finding out about the animals that live in the jungle. We have also been exploring and learning about different weather types.

Oaks Class:

Oaks class have shown fantastic teamwork across a wide range of practical, hands-on activities. Whether working together in the fitness suite, supporting one another in physical challenges, or taking part in group games and problem-solving tasks, students consistently demonstrated cooperation, encouragement and respect. They took turns, communicated clearly, and helped peers to succeed, showing growing confidence in working as part of a team while building resilience and independence.

Alongside this, Oaks have been developing valuable practical and life skills through real-world experiences. From preparing and measuring ingredients in the kitchen to maintaining outdoor spaces through gardening and site work, students engaged positively with purposeful tasks that required focus, responsibility and care. Their involvement in community-focused activities, such as litter picking and shared projects, highlighted a strong sense of pride and ownership in their environment. These experiences have supported Oaks learners to build practical skills, understand the importance of contributing to their community, and apply learning in meaningful, engaging ways.

Palm Class:

It has been a busy and exciting start to the new term in Palm Class, with children diving into hands-on learning across English, Maths, and Music.

Our English sessions focused on nature poetry, where we explored the movements of eagles through physical actions and sensory props. We also investigated the invisible power of the wind by using fans and sensory trays to mimic the rustling of leaves and the "whooshing" sounds of a storm. This focus on the natural world carried over into music, where we began our journey through the orchestra. After being introduced to the four main instrument families, we had a closer look at the String family. We have experimented with making "rubber band guitars" and used digital apps to explore the difference between plucking and bowing strings.

In Maths, the focus has been on building a strong understanding of number values. Students took part in "Number Hunts" and used sensory trays to practice reading and writing numbers. We also used creative tools like a "Rounding Rollercoaster" and toy cars on a "Rounding Road" to help visualise how numbers move to the nearest ten or hundred. It has been a fantastic start to the year, blending physical activity and sensory exploration.
