Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

Over the past few weeks, our learning has been filled with adventure, exploration, and creativity across the school.

Our young learners set sail on a pirate-themed journey, using treasure maps to develop their problem-solving skills as they searched for where “X marks the spot.” This exciting theme encouraged curiosity, teamwork, and imagination as children navigated their way to hidden treasures.

We also embraced the outdoors through our insect welly walks, where children explored natural habitats and engaged in rich sensory experiences. They discovered a variety of insects, learning to observe closely and develop an understanding of the world around them through hands-on exploration.

Creativity has been another key focus, with plenty of opportunities to get messy and expressive. Our EYFS children particularly enjoyed “Splatter Art” sessions, experimenting with paint by bouncing balls to create unique patterns. This theme continued as other classes designed and built their own insect gardens and investigated different plants, combining creativity with fine motor skills, science and imaginative thinking.

The recent sunshine has provided the perfect backdrop for outdoor learning, allowing our children to thrive as inquisitive learners in the fresh air. It has been wonderful to see them so engaged, active, and inspired by their surroundings.

We rounded off the week with a fantastic celebration of Red Nose Day. Dressed in red, the children enjoyed a themed tuck shop, rebound and water play activities, and even some baking. It was a joyful and memorable way to come together while supporting a great cause- Thank-you for your support.

Overall, it has been a vibrant and enriching few weeks, full of discovery, creativity, and lots of fun.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Apples Class:

This term apple's class have been immersed in an exciting pirate themed topic. They have loved creating their own treasure maps, taking part in treasure hunts and dressing up as pirates. Our sensory tuff trays and themed resources have encouraged lots of exploration, imagination and hands on learning.

We've also made the most of the sunny weather, enjoying time outdoors and engaging in a variety of activities in the fresh air. We incorporated our learning into outdoor play, such as bouncing bouncy balls in paint to support and reinforce our learning of the 'b' sound.

We also have been delighted to begin our music therapy sessions with Sam. These sessions have been a wonderful experience for the children, and they have all responded with great enthusiasm and enjoyment.

Sycamore Class:

In Sycamore class we have been working very hard in Maths. We have been practising our counting, adding more and taking away. Some of us are reading and writing our own number sentences.  We love singing number songs together and our current favourite is Ten in the Bed.

Cedar Class:

Over the past couple of weeks Cedar Class have been learning about insects and gardens. We have been exploring habitats through sensory exploration, engaging with different insect types and creating our own gardens. We have also been exploring the concept of whole and half through maths sessions, learners have been splitting objects into equal halves. We have been making the most of the nice weather we are currently experiencing by moving our learning outside to further reinforce our current topic.

Willow Class:

The children in Willow Class have been busy creating a beautiful collage inspired by Alice’s Wonderland garden. They carefully added colourful flowers, curious mini beasts, and leafy trees to bring their magical scene to life. The finished artwork is full of imagination and detail, just like Wonderland itself. We have also used our maths skills to create “halves” and “wholes” by folding butterflies and ladybirds.

Football:

Students from our Upper Site recently visited Cury School to support and football sessions. The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and enthusiasm while working with younger pupils.

The afternoon was a great success, with lots of fun had by all. We are incredibly proud of how our students represented the school and look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.

If your child is absent from school without authorisation, you will be committing an offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid after this but within 28 days.

If your child is further absent from school without authorisation within any 3-year period, you will be committing a further offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices for a second offence are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £160, payable within 28 days.

Importantly, fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action such as a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.

Failure to pay the Penalty Notice may also result in legal action. If you are prosecuted and attend court because your child has not been attending school, you could get a fine of up to £2,500. Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Absence not authorised by the school may also result in a prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court under Section 444(1) or Section 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996, leading to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a custodial sentence. Again, Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Money raised from fines is only used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system, and to fund attendance support. Any extra money is returned to the government.
