Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

What a glorious way to end the Spring Term! The past few weeks have been filled with creativity, curiosity, and some truly memorable learning experiences across the school.

Our younger learners have been transported back in time, exploring the fascinating world of dinosaurs. From creating non-fiction information books packed with incredible facts, to investigating dinosaur eggs and fossils, their enthusiasm has been wonderful to see. The excitement continued as pupils designed dinosaur shadow puppets and brought them to life in a fantastic performance, experimenting with light and dark using torches and shadows.

Elsewhere, classes have been diving into the world of Vikings, crafting impressive shields and even writing their names in Viking runes. In science, pupils have been busy exploring electricity, successfully building battery-powered circuits to light bulbs, sound buzzers, and even power small fans—an exciting hands-on achievement!

In maths, students have been developing their understanding of day and night, daily routines, and time through a range of engaging, multi-sensory activities, helping to bring these important concepts to life.

A particular highlight of the term was our recent residential trip to Bristol. Students embraced every opportunity, from exploring interactive exhibits at We The Curious Science Museum and discovering marine life at Bristol Aquarium, to taking part in a guided walking tour of famous Banksy artwork. The visit to the Aerospace Museum truly inspired curiosity about flight and engineering, as students learned about historic aircraft and space exploration.

Throughout the trip, our students were outstanding ambassadors for the school. Their excellent behaviour, teamwork, and enthusiasm were evident at every stage, and they supported one another with kindness and pride. We are incredibly proud of how they represented our school community.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to our families and carers for their generosity in supporting our Easter raffles—the prizes were fantastic! Our Easter discos were a great success and a wonderful way to celebrate together as a school community.

It has truly been a fantastic end to a brilliant term.

Happy Easter to you all!

Acorns Class:

This term Acorns class has been going back in time to learn all about dinosaurs. We have made a non-fiction information book all about dinosaurs and explored dinosaur eggs and fossils. We learnt an amazing fact that a Tyrannosaurus Rex could even eat a whole Triceratops! We also made dinosaur shadow puppets and put on a show exploring light and dark with torches and shadows.

Palm Class:

A Wonderful Visit to St Mary's Church!

Palm class, along with a few extra guests, recently enjoyed a fantastic visit to St Mary's Church to take part in their Easter sessions. A huge thank you to the incredibly kind and welcoming volunteers who greeted us and made the experience so special.

During our time there, the children rotated around different areas of the church, taking part in interactive sessions to learn about the key parts of the Easter story.

We are incredibly proud to share that the volunteers complimented the children on their excellent behaviour and listening skills throughout the visit. It was a brilliantly engaging and educational trip for everyone involved and we look forward to visiting again soon!

If your child is absent from school without authorisation, you will be committing an offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid after this but within 28 days.

If your child is further absent from school without authorisation within any 3-year period, you will be committing a further offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices for a second offence are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £160, payable within 28 days.

Importantly, fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action such as a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.

Failure to pay the Penalty Notice may also result in legal action. If you are prosecuted and attend court because your child has not been attending school, you could get a fine of up to £2,500. Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Absence not authorised by the school may also result in a prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court under Section 444(1) or Section 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996, leading to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a custodial sentence. Again, Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Money raised from fines is only used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system, and to fund attendance support. Any extra money is returned to the government.
