Dear parents, carers and families,

It has been another fun, busy and enriching week at Nancealverne, filled with memorable experiences both in school and out in our local community.

Some pupils thoroughly enjoyed a special visit from Dr Jo Grace, who captivated everyone with a wonderful Sensory Story session. We were also delighted to take part in a trip to Sancreed, kindly hosted by the Heritage Trust, where pupils had the opportunity to explore and learn in a unique outdoor setting. Across the week, many pupils have also enjoyed valuable community visits, including trips to the supermarket and participation in gymnastics.

Back in school, there has been no shortage of enrichment opportunities. Pupils have enthusiastically engaged in activities such as tuck shop, choir and story times, all of which contribute to developing confidence, communication and independence while bringing enjoyment to the school day.

We have also welcomed a number of visitors to Nancealverne this week, including colleagues from The Special Partnership Trust and our planned School Improvement Partner visit. It was particularly pleasing that all visitors commented on the school's inclusive culture, the high standards evident throughout the setting and the strength of our personalised curriculum, which is carefully tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of every pupil.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the dedicated staff team at Nancealverne. Their enthusiasm, commitment and hard work make these opportunities possible and ensure that our pupils continue to thrive, learn and achieve every day.

Wishing everyone a fun and relaxing weekend,

Pippa

Deputy Headteacher

Acorns Class:

Acorns have been very busy learning and welcoming our new friends into class. We have especially enjoyed getting back to swimming this week in the hydro pool, our weekly welly walks and our cooking sessions. We have been using lots of communication boards to help us in our play and also learning how to communicate using GRID on the iPad. In Maths some of us have been using the Numicon to make 10 and we love to fill the giant Numicon with cars and toys.

Juniper Class:

We have been exploring, learning, and getting to know each other in a variety of creative ways!

In Maths we have been building our knowledge and skills with number including counting and place value. We have been working more independently and in small groups- we even counted using items of food!

In English we have been using the story of The Colour Monster to explore and write about our feelings. We have also been building fine motor skills and spelling using the playdough to spell key words.

Bring on the mess and noise! A week at school wouldn’t be complete without lots of messy and beautiful painting and expressing our joy through music and instruments!

Oaks Class:

Oaks Class have been making the most of their physical activity sessions with a visit to Hayle Driving Range. There was some great sharp shooting on display, but even better was the fantastic team atmosphere, with students encouraging and supporting one another throughout the session. It was brilliant to see everyone getting involved, having fun and enjoying being active together.

Alongside this, Oaks Class have also been exploring Cornwall’s rich history. Led by Cornish Heritage, they have been learning about tools and objects from the Stone and Bronze Ages, discovering more about life in the past. They also explored a hill fort and learned about the fascinating use of beacons during Elizabethan times.

A brilliant combination of physical activity, teamwork, history and hands-on learning — another great set of experiences for Oaks Class!

Maple Class:

We were delighted to welcome Jo-Grace for a special visit, where she shared a fantastic sensory story all about the seasons to help celebrate an 18th birthday in the class. Thank you, Jo-Grace, for such a memorable experience!

We have also been settling into our weekly routines, enjoying Rebound Therapy, Music Therapy, and Movement for Learning sessions. Alongside this, we have had lots of brilliant opportunities to develop and showcase our communication and mark-making skills.

We are so proud of all the hard work, enthusiasm, and engagement shown by everyone in Maple Class

We're proud to share that one of our parents,Adam, is taking on a 100 mile running challenge in October to raise money for the National Autistic Society.

Adam said: "Any donation, big or small, would mean so much. Not only will it help keep me motivated throughout the challenge, but it will also support the National Autistic Society's work to create a society that works for all autistic people and their families. Thank you for your support "

If you would like to donate, please follow the link.

If your child is absent from school without authorisation, you will be committing an offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £80 if paid within 21 days or £160 if paid after this but within 28 days.

If your child is further absent from school without authorisation within any 3-year period, you will be committing a further offence under the Education Act 1996. We may submit a request to Cornwall Council for a Penalty Notice to be issued, in accordance with Sections 444A and 444B of the said Act. Penalty Notices for a second offence are issued per liable parent, per child and each carry a fine of £160, payable within 28 days.

Importantly, fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action such as a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.

Failure to pay the Penalty Notice may also result in legal action. If you are prosecuted and attend court because your child has not been attending school, you could get a fine of up to £2,500. Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Absence not authorised by the school may also result in a prosecution in the Magistrates’ Court under Section 444(1) or Section 444(1A) of the Education Act 1996, leading to a fine of up to £2,500 and/or a custodial sentence. Again, Cornwall Council may also apply for the costs incurred in taking the matter to Court, including legal costs.

Money raised from fines is only used by the local authority to cover the costs of administering the system, and to fund attendance support. Any extra money is returned to the government.
