Dear Parents, Carers, and Friends,

What a fantastic week it has been at Nancealverne School! Our students have had incredible experiences, from exciting visits to Paradise Park, where they got up close with amazing wildlife, to active physical development circuits that had everyone moving, stretching, and having fun. Some of our pupils even enjoyed a trip to the beach, making the most of the fresh sea air and exploring the natural beauty of our coastline.

This week, we also take a moment to celebrate and pay tribute to a truly remarkable member of our school community. Anna, one of our dedicated Teaching Assistants, is retiring after an incredible 25 years at Nancealverne. Throughout her time here, she has worked in many different classes, always bringing warmth, kindness, and unwavering commitment to our students. She has truly embodied the values of our school, and her impact has been felt by so many children, families, and colleagues over the years. Thank you, Anna, for everything you have done – you are an inspiration to us all!

Wishing you all a happy half-term week

We look forward to another fantastic half-term ahead. Thank you for your continued support!

Pippa

Deputy Headteacher.

Skills Builder:

At Nancealverne School, we recognise the importance of embedding skills that translate to all areas of our pupil’s lives, and it has never been more important to build a set of essential skills to succeed for our young people.

The Skills Builder Framework defines the essential skills as: Listening, Speaking, Problem-Solving, Creativity, Staying Positive, Aiming High, Leadership and Teamwork.

This month's skill to focus on is 'Communication' across the school. For our students, we understand this can be more of a focus on finding their student voice, which can be across a number of platforms.

Acorn Class:

We helped to celebrate and welcome in The Chinese New Year. It is the year of the snake so we made a giant snake head for our parade, listened to Chinese music, tried noodles with chopsticks and also read our fortunes from fortune cookies. We even learnt how to paint some Chinese numbers.

Juniper Class:

As part of our overarching topic ‘We’re Going on a Journey...’ Juniper class have journeyed back in time this half term! We have taken on the role of archeologists exploring the wonders of ancient Egypt. We have studied a range of artefacts and learnt more about what the ancient Egyptians built; who they were ruled by; the importance of the sarcophagus and what life was like in ancient Egypt.

We also have been on a journey in English and geography exploring different physical features of our world. We have studied the story ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’ going on a journey down a river past waterfalls, mountains, the countryside and ending in the ocean. We have looked at certain aspects of this journey in greater detail during our geography learning.

The children are coached each week and take part in tennis-themed exercises and games. The children have improved their call handling skills week by week and are looking forward to continuing after half-term.

In cooking we have made pepperoni pizza and use toppings like cheese and pepperoni.

I made a remake of the original flappy bird game but with Scratch Junior. You play as a bird where you jump and avoid pipes by tapping the screen. It is unfinished, it’s still in the works and I want to do more on it.

On Scratch Jr I did some coding with my Number Lores. It’s so awesome! It was really fun.

Chestnuts Class:

This half-term we’ve been learning about animals around the world and the continents they live in. We had a great end of term trip to Paradise Park. We had a lot of fun.
