ISSUE 008

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another great week here at Nancealverne. The school has a busy atmosphere of productivity as all classes are enjoying their new termly topics. The students have also benefitted from some great community links…. visiting the Tate Gallery, and even having a visit from Biffa!

The teachers had some important training last evening, delivered by our 6th Form Lead Dan. It was a great refresher on Work Related Learning and our Skills Builder programme. We continue to develop our curriculum to ensure that it is linked to careers and the personal skills of all our pupils.

Please may we give you a reminder about the importance of attendance and punctuality. Do follow school procedure if your child is unable to attend school. The school day starts promptly at 9:10am and finishes at 3:20pm. If a student arrives late it can have a real impact on the class and the planned activities for the day. Thank you for your support.

Finally, if you are on Twitter please do follow the school account. We are now putting on daily content about events. Search for: Nancealverne School (@NancealverneS)

Have a great weekend,

Pippa Pyrah

School Uniform

Could we please remind all parents and carers that at Nancealverne we encourage all children to wear the agreed uniform. We understand that this can be difficult for some children, and we can be flexible to everyone's individual differences.

If you require help in purchasing uniform, we can support you with good quality second hand uniform, or financial assistance. Please contact one of our home school liaison team, Steph, in complete confidence. We are always happy to help!

6th Form had a fantastic opportunity this week to meet and engage with members of staff at the TATE Gallery, St Ives.

They were taken on a tour around the current Barbara Hepworth exhibition to gain inspiration for making their own works of art.

With this inspiration, they then created pressed clay tiles, using natural materials that had already been collected. Everyone had a brilliant time and really enjoyed spending time in the gallery space. Most shared after, that they would love to go again, in their own time.

Don't forget that our parent and carer coffee morning is coming up on the 24th of January.

Andrew - our SENCO - will be joining us to talk about developing a new parent/carer network. A letter will be coming home in the students book bags today about this - we would appreciate it if you could fill it in and return it when you can.

We'd appreciate it if you could let us know if you are attending (so we can  buy enough biscuits!) and if you have any dietary requirements. Please email Lauren on: lladd@nancelaverne.org.uk or call the office.

In Juniper Class we have been reading 'Around the World in Eighty Days' by Jules Verne and have been learning about the countries featured in the story. We have spent this week learning about France; cooking French food, learning some French phrases and finding out about the French artist, Matisse. We created these wonderful, Matisse-inspired paper-cut collages, looking at the simple forms and contrasting colours that he used.
