School Statements

Safeguarding Statement

Nancealverne School fully recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding and the protection of children and young people. We do this by:

  • Ensuring we practise safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff and volunteers to work with young people.
  • Raising awareness of child protection issues and equipping young people with the skills needed to keep them safe.
  • Developing and then implementing procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse.
  • Supporting pupils who have been abused in accordance with his/her agreed child protection plan.
  • Establishing a safe environment in which young people can learn and develop.
The designated Safeguarding Lead is our Headteacher Ruth Carpenter.
Manual Handling Statement

Cornwall Local Authority practises a policy of inclusion for all children with Special
Educational Needs including those with physical difficulties who may need manual
handling in the course of their time in school.

There are guidelines in the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHORegs '92) which we are required to follow to ensure the health and safety of both employees and pupils.

We have two Manual Handling Trainers at Nancealverne School and staff are trained on a regular basis to keep up to date with manual handing techniques and safe usage of equipment. If you have any questions or concerns about Manual Handling please ask to speak to the Manual Handling Trainers who will be happy to talk to you.

Sex and Relationships Education (SRE)

The School is committed to the provision of Sex and Relationships Education to all of its pupils. Our programme aims to respond to the diversity of children's cultures, faiths, sexual orientation and family backgrounds. All children are given extra support from staff and information is presented to meet their educational needs. Parents/Carers have the right to withdraw their children from all or part of the SRE provided at school except for those parts included in statutory National Curriculum.
